Ingredients
4 cups (500g) All-Purpose Flour
1/2 cup (100g) Granulated Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Salt
2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) Dry yeast
1 cup (240ml) Warm Milk (around 110°F/43°C)
1/2 cup (115g) Unsalted Butter Melted and slightly cooled
2 large Eggs
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1/2 teaspoon Almond Extract
Grated Lemon Zest from 1 lemon
1 cup (150g) Raisins
1 cup (150g) Candied Citrus Peel, finely chopped
1/2 cup (50g) Blanched Almonds, chopped
1/4 cup (60ml) Rum or Orange Juice
Powdered Sugar for dusting
Optional Ingredients for Extra Flavor:
– 7 ounces (200g) Marzipan, rolled into a log (for a marzipan-filled stollen)
– 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
– 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cardamom
– 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
Instructions
Prepare the Fruit Mixture:
In a small bowl, combine the raisins, currants, chopped candied citrus peel, chopped almonds, and rum. Stir well and let them soak for at least 1 hour (preferably overnight) to absorb the flavors.
